Week 5
This week was a continuation of last week as we continued to work on the infograph as a class. I know we started off by using the collaborative Google document, but as time went on, classmates started making their own Google draw page, so it got a little confusing as to which one we were using or putting our codes on. Eventually, I figured it out, but it made me realize that communication is key. Classmates referred to a green box without stating which document the box could be found, so it was just a matter of searching through all the files.
This week, we also attended our Google Hangout. Overall, it was definitely an interesting and fun way to have class. Technical difficulties seem to come up a lot and it's a matter of patience and teamwork. I ended up losing internet connection throughout my house while presenting and it was a struggle to get connected to the internet again. On my end, I was stressed and was trying to connect as fast as I could, and when my computer kept showing a popup that said I was putting in the wrong password, I started to get frustrated. I was so thankful and everyone was so patient with me while I was trying to figure out my life on the other end of the hangout.
And last but not least, HTML! This is what I've been waiting for! That assignment changed my view of websites completely. How many <p> </p> did it to take to create Youtube, Google, Facebook, and much more? It's crazy! I remember back in the Xanga days, I thought I was a pro by changing the table and font colors by using hex color codes and by programming the background so it doesn't scroll with the screen. I am now embarrassed. That HTML cheat sheet is golden! I am in love! I'm going to have to test out more things when I get a chance and I can't wait!
I know that in two weeks the lesson plan is due, and I'm a little unsure as I'm not sure the what it's suppose to consist of. As of now, I'm a little stressed, but I hope everything ends up okay.
Here's to another week of technology, fun, and education!

Week 4
This week, we learned about the International Society for Technology and Education (ITSE). Two statements that really stood out to me while browsing their website was, "As educators, we are preparing students for a future that we cannot yet imagine. Empowering students to become lifelong learners and providing them with the skills to face future challenges resourcefully and creatively is critical."I think this is very true in every discipline. In nursing, we are always preparing students with the current evidence based practice that is researched, but are training students to be flexible with constant changes. Especially with Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) being used in all acute settings, more changes and upgrades are to come. On a daily basis, I probably scan a dozen barcodes and QR codes prior to administering medications. Each patient is given a QR code and barcode on their ID band upon admission and nurses scan this prior to administering any medications or any blood sugar checks we need to complete.
Also, we truly want students to be lifelong learners and to better themselves within their profession. This week, I attended a meeting and learned that most disciplines are requiring doctorate degrees for entry level positions. New York recently passed a law where the requirement for entry level nurses is to have a Bachelor's degree. Although most new graduate programs in California "prefer" this, it is currently not a requirement. I think it is important to have educators and mentors encourage students to continue their education and better themselves in their profession. I believe technology plays a large roles as one continues their education. Currently, many nursing programs are web based. Lectures, exams, assignments are all proctored through an online system. Communication between students and faculty occurs primarily through email and text. Online programs are very useful, but I think it can be very impersonal if students do the bare minimum to pass the class.
This week, I tried to use the QR code to share a bit about my week. I finally decided to invest in one of these and have had so many fun with my family. Candy is obviously a big jealous and curious.

Week 3
This week was a slightly tough week for me to follow. I think the overall concepts of the week was intriguing and easy to follow. Web2.0 is an interactive or collaborative platform that engages people. I realized that I encounter and use so many Web2.0 platforms on a daily basis and never knew that there was a term to generalize these group of websites. One topic that I come across this week was the RSS feed on the O'Reilly link. I'm still a bit confused as to how this works. When I initially started blogging, many bloggers were talking about RSS, but I never fully grasped what this meant. I performed a quick Google search and learned that it's a way to get updates online content, but I still don't understand how this works. Is there a centralized website where all the RSS feeds I subscribed to populates? How am I notified about new content? Is it through email?
I believe there was a lot of confusion over this week's assignments and what's due. Near the top of Session, there's a list of assignments with the hyperlink of each submission for that week. The only thing about this Web2.0 assignment I was concerned about was my level of creativity. I feel like I want to creative in all the assignments and projects, but this week, I was really unsure and discouraged. This week, I felt good about my website choice until I saw others' posts on the Google document. I left my section blank for a couple of days so that if I found something better, I would come back and replace it, but, in the end, I didn't feel motivated to look for something new.
I do realize Session 5 just opened, so I do hope that this week can be a little better and I can get through it ok.

Week 2
This week, learning theories were discussed. In the MSN program, we were required to take a course called EDFN 5100, which was about Learning and Motivation Theories. Interestingly, most of the theories that were listed on the linked site were covered in that course. This semester, I am precepting with a nurse educator who works in the hospital. While developing my learning contract, I primarily focused on the Bruner's constructionist theory and Knowles' adult education theory. Learning is a life-long process, but nurses seem to be opposed to changes to rise. We are also creatures of habit, so the fight against change is understandable, but with the increased use of technology and the constant upgrades, there are going to be more than less changes in the profession. I wonder if change will ever be easily accepted. Up to this point, I have been indifferent to the technological changes at work and have learned to adapt pretty quickly, and I hope that doesn't change to much as the years go by.
When I was in high school, I frequently used a forum called Soompi. It was primarily a fan based system for the Korean culture that used discussion boards. I've heard about Reddit a lot through Youtubers or bloggers, but every time I go on the site, I get very overwhelmed by the amount of threads and unfiltered content. I gave it another try after watching this week's instruction video and I couldn't navigate through the site without feeling like the forum looks very unorganized.
I wasn't too sure what I wanted to build my lesson plan around, but ended up deciding to build it around makeup and skin care. The topic is "Learning about the History of Makeup/Skincare around the world." I had a bit of a difficult time find websites that cite their historical information and didn't find anything relevant in dermatology journals. I want to use the website that I found as a starting point and to cross reference all the time periods, but I'm not sure if I should start looking. I'm curious to see what the next steps of this lesson plan is and where it will take me.
