Week 2

This week, learning theories were discussed. In the MSN program, we were required to take a course called EDFN 5100, which was about Learning and Motivation Theories. Interestingly, most of the theories that were listed on the linked site were covered in that course. This semester, I am precepting with a nurse educator who works in the hospital. While developing my learning contract, I primarily focused on the Bruner's constructionist theory and Knowles' adult education theory. Learning is a life-long process, but nurses seem to be opposed to changes to rise. We are also creatures of habit, so the fight against change is understandable, but with the increased use of technology and the constant upgrades, there are going to be more than less changes in the profession. I wonder if change will ever be easily accepted. Up to this point, I have been indifferent to the technological changes at work and have learned to adapt pretty quickly, and I hope that doesn't change to much as the years go by.

When I was in high school, I frequently used a forum called Soompi. It was primarily a fan based system for the Korean culture that used discussion boards. I've heard about Reddit a lot through Youtubers or bloggers, but every time I go on the site, I get very overwhelmed by the amount of threads and unfiltered content. I gave it another try after watching this week's instruction video and I couldn't navigate through the site without feeling like the forum looks very unorganized.

I wasn't too sure what I wanted to build my lesson plan around, but ended up deciding to build it around makeup and skin care. The topic is "Learning about the History of Makeup/Skincare around the world." I had a bit of a difficult time find websites that cite their historical information and didn't find anything relevant in dermatology journals. I want to use the website that I found as a starting point and to cross reference all the time periods, but I'm not sure if I should start looking. I'm curious to see what the next steps of this lesson plan is and where it will take me.
