Week 9
Social media is becoming a crucial part of every day life. Toddlers are given iPads and elementary school students are walking around with smart phones. Looking at it from one perspective, what is society teaching the future generations? But also taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture, it is what the future is going to consist of, so why not use it for education?
When I was in elementary school, I had to physically open up an encyclopedia or dictionary to look things up. Now, you can do a quick search on Google or Yahoo, and come back with thousands or millions of hits. Technology is getting updated so quick that sometimes it gets overwhelming to follow. One thing I know is that I don't want to get left behind with all of these changes.
This week, we're using Twitter and hashtags to do the Social Sites in Education assignment. I used twitter a lot when I was an undergraduate student, but then Instagram happened and everyone shifted over to that. I've heard of classes using Twitter for participation points during class, but I've never actually been a part of one.
Seeing this, I started thinking how I would be able to use this in nursing classes. Of course to get this answer, I went to Google and came across a website with a compiled list of different Twitter accounts related to nursing news, information/resources, and nurses.
I'm getting ready to work on my lesson plan while I'm studying and preparing for my comprehensive nursing exams. I am beyond stressed at this point, and can't wait for May.
